The Portage Water Reclamation devoloped a pretreatment program as stated in their NPDES (National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System) permit. In the permit, the Portage Water Reclamation has a Non-Delegated Pretreatment program. June of 2006, the City of Portage accepted and approved ordinance number 06-26. This ordinance is the City's Pretreatment Ordinance. The Ordinance estabishes rules and regulations for the discharge of wastewater into the wastewater treatment system of the Portage Water Reclamtion Department. In 2007, a Pretreatment Coordinator was hired as stated in the permit. The Pretreatment Coordinator's duties include monitoring the industrial & commercials users of the POTW (Publicly Owned Treatment Works), Enforceing state issued permit & Local ordinance rules and regulations, education of the users pertaining to their permits and ordinances. The Pretreatment Coordinator is also responsible for developing, enforceing and overseeing the Portage Water Reclamtion's FOG (Fats, Oils and Grease) program. The FOG program estblishes which users are required to install traps / interceptors and how they are to be maintained.
The Pretreatment Coordinator's office is located at the Portage Water Reclamtion Facility's Adminstration Building. Their is currently only one (1) employee in the Pretreatment Department, which is the Pretreatment Coordinator.
